"You're asking me to reveal the best bits of my upcoming memoirs." — Sir Ian McKellen to Marc Maron
The above quote is from a recent episode of the WTF podcast and it hints at why so many celebrity interviews end up sucking and why Maron's are so terrific so often. To McKellen's credit he did answer every question and it was a great sport, but that line popped out at me because it's one of the few times a celebrity has been so obviously forthright about the boundaries the old school expects when it comes to submitting to profiles while promoting new work (films / books / etc.).
Fascinating.
