Also, worth noting, three of the albums on my list came out in late December—one reason it took me a while to write this is that I wanted to make certain my enjoyment of them wasn't simply reflexive and immediate—further making my case for not doing these kinds of lists before the actual end of the year.* Vindication!
*Double vindication, actually, since I have read many a piece handwringing over the fact that D'Angelo, in particular, would have easily topped this or that publication's list had only they not already been published.
